What Play+ Is

Play+ is a prepaid card program designed specifically for regulated US sports betting and casino operators. Each Vermont operator runs their own branded version; "DraftKings Play+", "FanDuel Prepaid Play+", "Fanatics Play+". The cards run on the Discover network and function like any prepaid debit card: you load funds onto the card, then use the card to deposit into the sportsbook (or spend at any Discover-accepting merchant).

Why Use Play+

  • Separation of funds. Your primary bank account never directly interacts with the sportsbook. Funds flow: bank → Play+ → sportsbook → Play+ → bank. The buffer is useful for bettors who want a cleaner accounting separation.
  • Fast withdrawals. Sportsbook-to-Play+ withdrawals are among the fastest available, often instant.
  • Card spending. Funds on Play+ can be spent at any Discover-accepting merchant (gas stations, grocery stores, etc.); useful if you want to use winnings directly without first transferring to a bank.
  • Bank-block workaround. If your bank declines deposits to gambling MCC codes, loading a Play+ from your bank (which Visa/MC see as a regular card load) and then funding the operator from Play+ usually works.

How to Set Up Play+

  1. In your operator app, navigate to Deposit / Cashier
  2. Select Play+ as the method
  3. You'll be guided through opening a Play+ account (basic KYC; name, DOB, address, SSN last 4)
  4. Once approved, load funds onto Play+ from your bank account (debit card, ACH, or in-person at a partner retailer)
  5. Once Play+ has a balance, use it to deposit into the sportsbook instantly

Common Issues

  • Multiple Play+ accounts: Each operator runs a separate Play+ program. Your DraftKings Play+ balance is NOT accessible to FanDuel or Fanatics. You'll need separate cards per operator.
  • Idle balance: Some Play+ programs charge monthly maintenance fees if the card sits inactive for 12+ months
  • Card loading limits: Typical limits of $2,500/day and $7,500/month per card

When Play+ Makes Sense

  • You want sportsbook funds in a separate, dedicated card
  • Your bank blocks direct sportsbook charges
  • You want to spend winnings at retail without a bank-transfer round-trip
  • You're managing multiple sportsbooks and want a clear per-operator wallet

For most bettors, PayPal is simpler and faster. Play+ shines specifically when you want fund separation or have bank-side gambling-MCC blocks.
